The pleasures of plein air painting are numerous, from spending time outside to solving quick visual problems to finding colors to express an idea. Fresh air, sunshine or not, a spot in the world make outdoor work very rewarding. I work outside and in. I often make drawings outsde and interpret them inside. There is often something captivating about a glimpse of intense color and composition that I re emphasize in the studio. I am now working with gold gesso on a black canvas. The gold suggests intense value. It carries multiple meanings and is interpreted differently by the viewer. My intention is to represent an outdoor composition but emphasize its color, composition and deep value.
